Salt Making Demonstration at Barrow Dock Museum Sunday 9th Sept 2018

We shall be making salt at the Dock Museum, Barrow in Furness on Sunday 9th September, 2018 to be a part of the Hidden Histories Exhibition.
More information at the article in The Mail - Hidden Histories

Museum opens 11am to 4pm. The exhibition runs until 4 November, 2018.

We will be using our small metal salty pan and burning peat as the fuel to evaporate the brine.
Experience the overwhelming peat smell - or 'peat reek' as some call it.

The section on salt making around Morecambe Bay features new research by Jonathan Cass who has been transcribing probate documents with references to salt making.

Michelle Cooper, Headlands to Headspace Community & Heritage training officer at Morecambe Bay Partnership, said: "The exhibition is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate and share the achievements of hard working volunteers from all around Morecambe Bay who have been unearthing, recording and researching hidden stories and archaeology from around the Bay."

This first stage in the Brunner Guildhall restoration project is funded by The Architectural Heritage Fund and grants provided by Cheshire West and Chester councillors for Winsford.
Members of the team report through the Town Clerk, Mark Bailey to the Winsford Town Council Brunner Guildhall Management Committee.
Team members are :
Andrew Fielding of A&A Fielding Ltd and Ecosal-UK
Tony Barton, Donald Insall Associates, architects
Christine Chadwick, social engagement and business planning

Brunner Guildhall, Winsford, Cheshire

Ecosal-UK is assisting A&A Fielding Ltd to produce a Viability Study for Winsford Town Council about the restoration and future use of Winsford's Brunner Guildhall.

The Guildhall was paid for by Sir John Brunner MP and presented to the Town Council in 1899.
It is a Grade 2 Listed Building and is a striking survival in town that has seen many changes since it was a major white salt producing town in mid-Cheshire. Winsford is still home to the major rock salt mine now operated by Compass Minerals.
More information can be found on the Winsford Town Council web site.
